Bernard Bouche Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of recent works by Bernhard Rüdiger.

Bernhard Rüdiger graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan where he was taught by Luciano Fabro. In the early stages of his career, he worked at the Casa degli artisti in Milan, the cultural association dedicated to promoting art, founded in 1981 by Luciano Fabro, Jole de Sanna and Hidetoshi Nagasawa. From 1989 to 1993, he made a key contribution to collaborations among artists such as Liliana Moro, Adriano Trovato ou Mario Airò, also known for the realisation of experimental collective projects, along with others, they founded the Tiracorrendo review and the artist-run space Lo Spazio di via Lazzaro Palazzi.

Today the artist lives and works in Paris. He currently teaches at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, where he leads the ACTH research unit since 2004. His study on space, sound, physical experience and perception of the body nourishes theoretical reflections on the real life of the œuvre and its historical responsibility. Through a parallel between teaching, writing and creating his art pieces the artist questions the foundations of the notion of form, and, more broadly, its relationship to society and contemporary history.

Assembling together twelve pieces produced during the last twenty years of his artistic career, Bernhard Rüdiger creates a visual atlas of objects, inspired by the historian Aby Warburg’s Atlas Mnemosyne. Every object is independent, but in a way interacts with other components of the atlas, providing new intellectual connections.Since 1992 the artist incorporates such visual maquettes into practice. The Atlas exposed in the current exhibition represents artist’s theoretical reflections on spatiality, equilibrium, logic; his inspirations from the Hiroshima architecture and landscape, resulting a range of antenna-like images and objects which challenge the idea of electrical tension and exchange across the Atlas.

The artist's work has been shown in numerous exhibitions, both in France and abroad, among which the exhibitions: the CCC in Tours (1996), the Abattoirs in Toulouse (1997), The Gallery of Noisy-le-Sec art centre (1999), the Museum of contemporary art of Bologna (1999), the Château des Adhémar contemporary art centre in Montélimar (2006). The artist was invited to participate in group shows at the Museum Modern Kunst in Vienna (1991), the Magasin in Grenoble (1992), the Museum of contemporary art of Caracas in Bogota, Buenos Aires (1992), the Venice Biennale (1993, 1999, 2011), the PS1 in New-York (1999), the Museo d'arte Moderna in Bologna (1999), the Palais des Beaux-arts in Lille (2006), the Quadrennial exhibition in the Rome Palazzo delle Esposizioni (1996, 2008), the Ostrale in Dresden (2013), the Villa Arson in Nice in 2015, as well as to present his work whithin a personal exhibition at the FRAC in Montpellier in 2015.
